We are celebrating women in our community this week while recognising International Women’s Day on Friday 8 March.

With well over a century of history and change, the first International Women’s Day (IWD) was held in March 1911.

IWD isn’t country, group or organisation-specific. It’s a day of collective global activism and celebration that belongs to all those committed to forging women’s equality.

This year’s them is ‘Inspire Inclusion’.

On an individual basis, IWD gives us the opportunity to consider how we value and seek out the inclusion of women and girls. Additionally, we can share insights as well as support and encourage others to re-think the way they react to and treat others.

It was great to welcome new students on campus recently, as part of the late semester start orientation. Greeted by various Richmond staff, students received their photo IDs and were ready to begin the new chapter in their lives.

Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, Dr Allison Cole-Stutz, and the Student Affairs team busily registered students all day long. Meanwhile, campus and library tours were provided throughout the day to familarise our students with their new surroundings.

Bolton Wanderers Football Club (BWFC) is delighted to announce a new official partnership with Leeds-based international football academy, RIASA (Richmond International Academic and Soccer Academy).

Founded in 2010, RIASA, the first of its kind, offers both international and UK students the chance to study for the world’s only US/UK accredited degree whilst living the dream, developing their soccer game and playing on UK soil.

The partnership with ‘The Whites’ will see Bolton Wanderers’ FA and UEFA qualified international coaching staff work closely with the RIASA team, sharing best practice and developing partnership opportunities for students and staff.

In addition, students will be given the opportunity to play games against Wanderers’ age-appropriate opposition and, during the off-season, the chance to play one game on the grass at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

Neil Hart, Chief Executive Officer at Bolton Wanderers said; “Following 12 months of discussions, we are delighted to launch this new partnership with RIASA.

“An impressive and long-standing educational academy programme, RIASA offers something unique to students from all over the world, and we are pleased we can support their mission to offer the very best in player experience here on UK ground.

“We look forward to working closely with the team and eventually welcoming the students to the Toughsheet Community Stadium”.

Mark Ellis, Academy Director at RIASA said;

I am thrilled to partner with an iconic club like BWFC and excited for the further opportunities this will bring for RIASA students.

“It is my priority to keep adding to the quality of the programme and create more success stories like former students Nahki Wells, presently at Bristol City and Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, now owner of Sunderland FC. I believe partnering with Bolton will give us opportunities like these.

RIASA will also see the launch of its London-based programme in September this year which will give more opportunities still for student/athletes to experience studying at Richmond American University London and playing in the capital city with access to the highest number of league clubs in the country!

Applications for RIASA for the academic year 2024/25 are open now for international students until the end of June 2024. For UK students, applications close at the beginning of August.

We’re delighted to announce today the launch of three innovative masters’ programmes, open for intake from September 2024.

Whether students are passionate about communication for social change, marketing and data analytics, or project management for sustainability, these programmes will provide them with the skills and knowledge to drive positive change in today’s dynamic world.

MA Communication for Social Change – This interdisciplinary MA combines public relations, international relations, and media studies through a blend of theoretical insights and practical applications such as digital media skills, harnessing the power of communication strategies to drive positive societal transformations and advocate for change.

MSc Digital Marketing with Data Analytics – This programme offers a comprehensive blend of marketing and analytical skills, preparing students for the dynamic and evolving field of digital marketing.  Students will learn how data can help inform decisions in a digital business environment while being mindful of social responsibility, sustainability and business ethics.

MSc Project Management for Sustainability – A pioneering programme designed for the new era of sustainable development in businesses, charities and NGOs (non-governmental organisations), preparing graduates to lead with a unique blend of environmental awareness and practical management skills.   They will also be offered the opportunity to gain an internationally recognised industry qualification, PRINCE2.7® Foundation and PRINCE2.7® Practitioner.

Developed by Dr Sue Pell, Professor of Communications, the MA Communication for Social Change can be completed over 12 or 18 months, full-time or two years, part-time.  The MSc Digital Marketing with Data Analytics (developed by Professor Greg Gannon, Head of Department, Richmond Business School) and MSc Project Management for Sustainability, (developed by Dr Jane Norris, Professor of Digital & Design Culture), can be completed full-time in 16/18 months and include a course in Advanced English for Business Studies, with lower entry levels than the majority of our masters’ programmes.

We are taking applications now for any of these new programmes which represent a great opportunity for students to advance their careers and gain a dual UK and US degree.

Dom Alessio, Professor of History and VP International Programmes at Richmond American University London, recently gave a guest lecture at Centre College, a Liberal Arts College in Danville, Kentucky, US, as part of the College convocation event, attended by students, staff, faculty and the general public.

The lecture, Faith, Folk and the Far Right: Racist and anti-racist Heathenry and occultism in the UK, was based on Dr Alessio’s forthcoming book which examines extremist Heathenry and occultism in the UK and how anti-racist Heathens act to counter this discourse.

Dr Alessio also presented a paper this week at the British Commonwealth and Postcolonial Studies Conference in Savannah, Georgia, US. Entitled, Rethinking Agents of Empire: the Role of the United Nations in the Indonesian Occupation of West Papua, Professor Alessio’s paper focused on an article coming out shortly in the Journal of New Zealand and Pacific Studies.
