Celebrating Success: RIASA Students’ Inspiring Visit to Leeds United Foundation
In November last year, Richmond American University London’s students embarked on a heart-warming journey to the Leeds United Foundation at the iconic Elland Road stadium. This visit was not just about exploring the legendary football grounds but had a deeper purpose – a culmination of the students’ incredible efforts and a testament to their commitment to community engagement.
Earlier in April 2023, as part of their Sports Events Planning and Promotion class, these enthusiastic students organized a football tournament. The primary goal? To raise funds for a meaningful cause. Fast forward to last Thursday, and we’re thrilled to share the remarkable news that they not only met but exceeded expectations, presenting an awe-inspiring total of £642!
But the story doesn’t end there. The students, driven by a passion for positive change, chose to direct these funds towards a cause close to the heart of Leeds United – the Corner Flag Cafe. This monthly gathering is a beacon of hope for people living with dementia and their families or carers. It offers a unique space for reminiscing, reflection, and most importantly, combating social isolation that often accompanies the challenges of dementia.
For the students enrolled in the psychology of happiness and wellbeing class, this visit provided a rare opportunity to translate theories into action. The vibrant exchanges and lively conversations between the students and the members of the Corner Flag Cafe were nothing short of magical. The room buzzed with happiness as they shared stories about Leeds, football, and life in general, effectively putting positive psychology principles to practice.
The hour spent at the Corner Flag Cafe was a testament to the power of community, empathy, and the simple joy of human connection. It was a beautiful example of how our students, beyond their academic pursuits, actively contribute to making a positive impact on the world around them.
As a token of appreciation, the students were treated to an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Elland Road stadium. From the media room to the changing rooms and pitchside, the students got an insider’s look into the inner workings of this historic football ground.
This visit was more than a field trip; it was a celebration of generosity, compassion, and the profound impact that small acts of kindness can have on a community. Richmond American University London is immensely proud of these students and their dedication to making a difference.
Here’s to more moments of community, connection, and making the world a better place, one positive initiative at a time! 🌍⚽ #RAISACares #CommunityEngagement #LeedsUnitedFoundation
