About

David M. Munyinyi graduated with a PhD in Applied Mathematics from University College London (UCL), University of London in 2003 on a University Graduate Scholarship and later awarded an Overseas Research Scholarship. His PhD study was in mathematical biology where he researched on mathematical modelling of population dynamics of biological organisms fluctuating under chemotaxis attraction. Prior to coming to the UK for the PhD program, he studied for an MA degree (by research) in mathematics and computing at State University of New York (SUNY) at Albany, on a US State Department Scholarship and a BSc (Hons) in mathematics, chemistry and education from the University of Nairobi, Kenya.

Upon completion of his PhD he was appointed post-doctoral mathematical biologist at the Institute for Animal Health, Oxford and later research mathematical biologist at the Institute for Animal Health, Pirbright, Surrey. During his time as a mathematical biologist he worked on modelling transmission dynamics of bovine tuberculosis and bluetongue disease prevalent in UK and Europe. He has also worked at the Veterinary Laboratory Agency (an agency of Defra) as a Senior Risk Analyst investigating the likelihood of emerging and exotic disease pathogens coming to the UK via different modes of transmission from mainland Europe or Africa.

His research interests evolve around education and mathematical modelling of real life situations be it biological or economics which has of recent attracted his attention. He is a co-author of an A level math book Examination Mathematics published by Stanley Thornes of London. Dr Munyinyi is Associate Professor of Mathematics at Richmond University, London where he teaches a wide range of mathematical courses that are inter-disciplinary in nature to students whose major subjects are in Business, Finance, Economics and the Social Sciences.
