Richmond Professor plays key role at New Zealand conference
Dom Alessio, Professor of History and Vice President International for the University, recently attended the New Zealand/Pacific Studies Association’s 27th annual conference which was jointly hosted by Stockholm University (Sweden) and the University of Turku (Finland).
Whilst there Alessio chaired two sessions: one on regional security in the Pacific and the second on sport and culture.
Alessio had also been invited to give the final keynote speech of the conference which was entitled: “Rethinking Agents of Empire: West Papua and the Role of the United Nations in Indonesia’s Occupation”.
A version of this paper, which was co-written with his daughter Imogen, is to be published later this year in the Journal of New Zealand and South Pacific Studies.
