Accounting and finance are more than crunching numbers. A role in either industry will prove both satisfying and challenging and require strategic thinking.
This BSc Accounting & Finance programme is your opportunity to gain a major step towards a globally recognised accounting qualification with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the global body for professional accountants.
Our BSc Accounting & Finance degree programme will give you a head start on professional accounting qualifications when you graduate with nine exemptions from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) professional examinations. ACCA is a globally recognised body for professional accountants.
You will start this degree with an exploration of diverse topics. You’ll study statistics, economics, law and information technology to gain a truly solid understanding of the field.
In the second year the programme goes on to explore managerial and financial accounting, looking at computer applications in management and calculus, to give you a thorough foundation in accounting processes and systems.
Deepen your understanding of Taxation and Financial Reporting as well as specialising in topics of your choice, such as Wealth Management or Global Investor.
You’ll also have the opportunity to undertake an internship in a leading financial or management organisation in London.
Students who study this programme will gain exemptions from the ACCA qualification as follows: Business and Technology (BT), Management Accounting (MA), Financial Accounting (FA), Corporate and Business Law (LW), Performance Management (PM), Taxation (TX), Financial Reporting (FR), Audit and Assurance (AA), Financial Management (FM). These papers are previously known as F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, F7, F8 and F9.
On completing this programme, students will also be able to apply for eight exemptions from The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the world’s largest professional body of management accountants, entering into their Management Level.
Graduates will be exempt from the certificate level (BA1 Fundamentals of Business Economics, BA2 Fundamentals of Management Accounting, BA3 Fundamentals of Financial Accounting and BA4 Fundamentals of Ethics, Corporate Governance and Business Law) and the operational level (E1 Managing Finance in a Digital World, P1 Management Accounting, F1 Financial Reporting, and the Operational Case Study Exam).

In terms of following up with the assessment of student learning and consistent with US liberal arts traditions, our classes rely on the system of continuous assessment on a course by course basis and throughout any given semester. This approach often involves the use of term-papers, portfolios of work, quizzes, mid-semester and final exams as well as student presentations and general class discussion. Not every component applies to every course, but most do relate to many of the classes that are offered. Many of our courses involve a site visit or require attendance at a public lecture as well.
In addition to the courses outlined above, there are open electives in each year. Course content and delivery can be subject to change. For more detailed information on the programme specification, please find more details here.
A normal course load per academic year is 30 US credits, equivalent to 120 UK credits. Students complete 120 UK credits at Level 6 in their chosen major.

“Our BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance degree prepares our learners for a wide range of accounting and finance roles. Our graduates are equipped with practical skills and technical knowledge in accounting, finance, business mathematics and computer applications. The programme is recognised by the professional accounting bodies and offers exemptions towards the ACCA professional qualification.”
Professor Greg Gannon
Head of Richmond Business School
“I chose Richmond as it offers both UK and US accreditation, small classes and a very personal approach to education.
Studying BSc in Accounting & Finance combined with a minor in Mathematics allows me to gain comprehensive knowledge of accounting, business, finance as well as quantitative skills and hopefully pursue a career in Finance after graduation.
ACCA exemptions significantly shorten the time required to receive this internationally recognized qualification. Small class size allows for more contact with lectures, and all professors I had experience with are very approachable and helpful. I believe that a degree from Richmond is a sound investment in the future.”

“I have absolutely loved my time at Richmond! The accounting and finance professors make the degree worth it and exciting.
